Principles of the Iris work

Human rights

All Pro Centre clients should receive information about their rights and what the centre offers, presented in a clear and understandable way.  In Iris work, we evaluate and support the realisation of fundamental and human rights for victims of human trafficking, as well as offer victims legal advice. We also monitor what consequences actions against human trafficking have in the realisation of the fundamental and human rights of Pro Centre clients.

Fair treatment in Iris work entails direct interest supervision, supporting clients in their use of different services, and offering them support in criminal justice proceedings. Iris workers understand the traumatising effects on the functioning ability of a victim of crime, and can take this into account when working with the client.

Humanity

Essential to Iris work is a holistic approach to clients. With an Iris worker, clients may discuss everything they find important: health, family, living in Finland, worries, fears, livelihood, distress, sex work, children, or spiritual affairs, and more.  Support services are guided by the clients’ needs. The client is the best expert on his or her own life. We strive to see the choices clients have made from their perspective.

Security

All human beings have the right to live without violence or the threat or violence. Violence and the threat of violence that Iris clients may have been subjected to include psychological, physical, sexual and/or social violence. Clients may talk confidentially to Iris workers about their fears and need for protection. We take clients’ fears seriously and strive to deal with the reasons for the fear. For those Iris clients who are a part of the National Referral Mechanism it may be necessary to arrange for security measures. These are arranged for together with the authorities.
